Religion and culture have been lifelong fascinations of mine. I like to joke the Kinda Religious Podcast is my way of finally putting that bachelors degree in Religious Studies to good use.
I want to use this podcast to learn about and from a variety of religious experiences, to get to know more people and make some friends along the way (that already happened more than once!). This is also a way to explore U.S. culture and its interaction with religion as we move through the 21st Century.
Technological advances and demographic changes are having significant impact on our society, including mental health issues (loneliness, anxiety, depression), increased political division, substance abuse, and shifting definitions of work and productivity. I am interested in how religious communities react when confronted by these impacts.
In particular, I am interested in religious use of social media, “deconstruction” in the Evangelical movement, definitions of happiness, and “common American culture” à la Robert Bellah.
I’ve written a few articles on these topics and more on Medium.
